RmtD 16S RNA methylase in epidemiologically unrelated spm-1-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from Brazil.
We read with interest the article by Doi et al. (2) suggesting that the coproduction of the metallo-lactamase SPM-1 and the RmtD 16S RNA methylase is highly prevalent among imipenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from Brazil. SPM-1 is widespread among Brazilian carbapenem-resistant P. aeruginosa isolates, and isolates carrying blaSPM-1 have been observed in distinct regions of this c...

متن کاملGenetic environment of 16S rRNA methylase gene rmtD.
The genetic environment of the 16S rRNA methylase gene rmtD was investigated. rmtD was flanked by a novel ISCR motif located downstream of class I integron In163 in the original Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain. rmtD found in Klebsiella pneumoniae appeared to have been mobilized from P. aeruginosa by an IS26-mediated event.
متن کاملEmergence of Klebsiella pneumoniae coproducing KPC-2 and 16S rRNA methylase ArmA in Poland.
A Klebsiella pneumoniae epidemic strain that coproduced carbapenemase KPC-2 (K. pneumoniae carbapenemase 2) and 16S rRNA methylase ArmA has emerged in Poland. Four nonduplicate isolates from patients in a hospital in Warsaw, Poland, were found to carry the bla(KPC-2) and armA genes on ca. 50-kb and 90-kb plasmids, respectively. Tn4401 with a 100-bp deletion in the variable region was detected i...
متن کاملNovel 16S rRNA methyltransferase RmtH produced by Klebsiella pneumoniae associated with war-related trauma.
Klebsiella pneumoniae strain MRSN2404 was isolated from the chronic wound of a soldier who had been wounded in Iraq in 2006. The strain displayed very high MICs of all aminoglycosides, including arbekacin. A gene encoding a novel 16S rRNA methyltransferase, now designated RmtH, was identified. RmtH had 64% identity with RmtB1 and RmtB2. rmtH was bracketed by two copies of ISCR2, which may have ...
